 LRA homepage The Leicester Research Archive (LRA) is the University's Open Access repository. The site has recently had a revamp, so do pay a visit if you've not seen it! A series of short videos are now available to replicate our session on 'Raising your publication profile through Open Access' Research funders and the University expect researchers to make their research publications openly available. If you'd like to explore the options available to you we have a handy flowchart to help. On Saturday 9th May I attended the first Applied Comics Network event to talk about the PhD sessions I offer on 'Communicating your research as a comic strip'. The event was looking at the use of comics for informational and educational purposes. Attendees included academics, PhD students, graphic facilitators and comic creators. Applied Comics Network is run by Lydia Wysocki ( Newcastle Science Comic , Applied Comics Etc ), John Swogger (Archaeology in the Caribbean, Something Different About Dad), and Ian Horton (Coordinator for Contextual and Theoretical Studies, London College of Communication). They started the event off (before & after the interruption of a fire alarm!) by looking at the different types of comics the network might cover. Feedback from academics and researchers has told us that lots of you use Google Scholar, so the library is making it easier for you to access our resources via Google Scholar. If you click on any of the Google Scholar links from the library website when off-campus it will ask you to login with your IT username and password. When you search it will then supply you with links to the full text of items the library has access to. This already happens automatically on-campus. Social Study Zone at Brookfield The Postgraduate Teaching Centre at Brookfield is just a short walk across the park. The Centre offers group and individual study space for postgraduate researchers including a silent reading room and a silent PC Zone. There's also a coffee shop, run by the Student Union.
