Upcoming Training And Library Research Support

You can now export multiple citations from Google Scholar

You can now export multiple citations from Google Scholar if you have a Google Account. Go to Google Scholar and sign into your Google Account. Conduct your search. Click on the Star icon (Save) under each reference you want to export. Then click on My Library in the top, right of the screen. Select all the references and click on the Export option: Click the Star/Save Icon Choose Export Option To Export into EndNote Choose the EndNote option. Open the EndNote file that is created. The references should automatically import into EndNote. To Export into RefWorks Choose the RefMan option. Save the RIS file that is created. Login to your RefWorks account. Click on the plus (+) button. Choose Import References. Add the RIS file you just saved. Set the file import option to RIS - Reference Manager. EndNote X8

EndNote X8 is being made available on staff and student computers for the 2017/18 academic year. For staff computers it will be made available to install through the Program Installer. For student computers it will automatically be made available via the Start - All Programs menu. Remember - the University of Leicester license only allows EndNote X8 to be installed on University owned computers (including University laptops). If you would like to access your references at home then you can sync your EndNote desktop library with EndNote online. What's new in EndNote X8? Reference Management: EndNote or RefWorks?

Not sure what reference management or bibliographic software is? Watch our short introduction: At the University of Leicester we provide access and support for two software packages: EndNote RefWorks Both packages allow you to collect and store references, have a Word toolbar to insert citations and bibliographies and to store and annotate PDFs. Why might you prefer EndNote? It is very popular in certain subjects and you might find that your colleagues/supervisors are using it. If you wish to use the Law referencing style OSCOLA then you will need to use EndNote. If you are using a footnote style that requires short titles - EndNote can be customised better for this than RefWorks, and has a wider range of reference types. Be aware - the University license only covers the use of the EndNote desktop software on university owned computers. You can sync your desktop version with an online account to use at home, but the online account has less features than the desktop...

RefWorks/EndNote and Library Search

How to export results from the Library Search into RefWorks or EndNote Select the items you wish to export by clicking on the star next to the title.  Click 'My Favourites' at the top of the screen.  Tick the boxes next to the items you wish to export and click on the drop-down menu titled 'Select how to save'.  Choose 'Push to RefWorks or 'Push to Export RIS' (for EndNote) and click Go. The items will then be imported into RefWorks or EndNote. Good Practice Tip: We recommend you check the references and edit them to ensure the correct information is in the correct fields.
