Finding Health & Medicine Research from around the World

When looking for health and medicine research it is very easy to stick to the well known databases. However, they don't always cover research from all countries, so if you want search in a more diverse range of databases here are some others you could try: Global Index Medicus "The Global Index Medicus (GIM) provides worldwide access to biomedical and public health literature produced by and within low-middle income countries. The main objective is to increase the visibility and usability of this important set of resources. The material is collated and aggregated by WHO Regional Office Libraries on a central search platform allowing retrieval of bibliographical and full text information." African Journals Online "African Journals OnLine (AJOL) is an online service to provide access to African-published research, and increase worldwide knowledge of indigenous scholarship." SciELO Citation Index "Provides scholarly literature in sciences, social sciences, and...

Research Seminars at Leicester 2016/17

One of the best ways to find out about new research in your field is to attend a regular research seminar. Speakers present new work before it is published, and allow the audience to ask questions and discuss their findings. Seminars are also a great way to meet new people from inside and outside the university.  There are many regular seminars at Leicester that PhD students can attend. You may already know about the one run by your department, but it is worth having a look at others, especially given the strong push for interdisciplinary research. Venturing outside your usual field can stimulate new ideas for your own research project.  Below is a list of active seminars for 2016/17. If anyone would like to be included in this list, email me (wjbf1@le.ac.uk) and I will update.   Archaeology Full program Time: Wednesdays, meet in School Foyer at 16:30.  Cardiovascular Sciences ...

Why is open access publishing important to researchers at the University of Leicester?

Open Access means that your research publications are freely available to be read and re-used by anyone with an internet connection. Going Open Access raises your research visibility and impact: more downloads, social media mentions, and citations. It means researchers anywhere can read your work and practitioners can apply your findings - and most publishers permit it in some form. Hear from University of Leicester Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Boyle on Open Access at the University of Leicester: Hear from researchers at the University of Leicester on Open Access: If you are a University of Leicester researcher and have any questions about Open Access publishing then please email openaccess@le.ac.uk If you are a PGR student there are still places on our workshop "Raising your profile through open access" on  23rd May, which can be booked via PROSE Also see our previous blog post on Open Access for Staff & PGRs
