Library support for Distance Learners

We provide several services for distance learners doing PhDs at Leicester. The Library website and catalogue can be accessed off-campus, as can our ebooks and online journal articles. We also have further support for distance learners:

Digitising book chapters and journal articles 

You can ask for the Library to scan print journal articles or book chapters, and send them to you. Find our more here.

Postal loan services

We offer a postal loan service too. We will send books from the main library collection to you by post (you bear the cost of sending them back to Leicester). Find out more here or in the short video below:


Skype appointments 

We offer 1-2-1 appointments for all PhD students to discus questions you may have in more depth.  For those of you who can't come onto campus, we are happy to talk via Skype. Please email us on librarians@le.ac.uk to arrange a time. 

Webinars

The Library run workshops as part of the Doctoral College researcher training. This year the following sessions will have webinar versions for those who can't attend a physical classroom:
  • Planning literature search 
  • Conducting literature search 
  • Advanced literature searching 
  • Tools for note taking 
  • Finding grey literature 
  • Copyright and your thesis
  • Finding images for research.

You can now export multiple citations from Google Scholar

You can now export multiple citations from Google Scholar if you have a Google Account. Go to Google Scholar and sign into your Google Account. Conduct your search. Click on the Star icon (Save) under each reference you want to export. Then click on My Library in the top, right of the screen. Select all the references and click on the Export option: Click the Star/Save Icon Choose Export Option To Export into EndNote Choose the EndNote option. Open the EndNote file that is created. The references should automatically import into EndNote. To Export into RefWorks Choose the RefMan option. Save the RIS file that is created. Login to your RefWorks account. Click on the plus (+) button. Choose Import References. Add the RIS file you just saved. Set the file import option to RIS - Reference Manager. How to use SNL for financial research

Following the successful demonstration of Mergent Online , we have another database for you this week: SNL . SNL is a global financial database providing news, macroeconomic data and financials and analytics of banks and insurance companies. It replaces Bankscope, the database we previously used for this area.
